“Prior to January 15, 2012 I was just your typical 21-year-old girl ready to really begin my next big adventure in life – law school. Adoption law was always an interest of mine and after finishing my degree in Sociology I knew exactly what my next steps were. I applied to Hastings, Davis, U of A and ASU law schools and was admitted to more than I had hoped for. My heart was set on ASU to be Sun Devils like my parents!”

“But, as I am sure you know by reading this, I didn’t ever make it to law school. However, I have made more progress with where I am currently than what many had thought was possible. No, you probably won’t be seeing me as a Supreme Court Justice any time soon. But, you will see me continue to move forward each and every day. Think of my story as an unexpected plot-twist. It did not happen the way I or anyone else expected but it is not yet over. I am just beginning. I am a butterfly.”

Regan’s Story
On January 15, 2012, Regan Moore was in a serious car accident that left her in a coma for weeks. The brain trauma she endured was so severe that she was read her last rites. But, with the resilient spirit her family knows and loves, Regan pulled through. She finally returned home after being hospitalized for five months, but she had suffered lasting injuries that now require 24/7 care.
Before Regan’s accident, she was an overachieving 21-year old who graduated university in three years. She went from a world of law school acceptance letters, to a brain injury that has left her under constant care.
Currently, Regan is unable to speak. She has limited short-term memory, as well as limited function in her right leg and her right arm, all of which are detrimental to writing, communicating, and walking. Regan requires a feeding tube and uses sign language to communicate to friends and family.
Regan’s family has invested in a therapy method at home, called Neuro-IFRAH, and Regan is making incredible strides to recover. She is gaining back her contagious sense of humor and her happy disposition. But she still suffers from bouts of confusion and memory loss. Every day is a re-learning experience for a brain injury like Regan’s. Sadly, insurance doesn’t see it that way, and is no longer providing funding for this type of therapy. But her family continues to fight by researching new treatments for her.
On Regan’s road to recovery, a pioneering treatment called Neural Stem Cell Therapy is Regan’s best chance to regain some of the skills she has lost. This treatment will help repair and replace Regan’s damaged cells. Typically this treatment benefits the most physically; the hope is that it will improve her ability to use her right hand, get her eating on her own, and enable her to walk. And of course, in addition to increasing motor coordination, Regan’s family is hoping it will give her the ability to speak again.
Regan is the pure definition of resilience. She is visibility motivated, and she works hard every single day to recover. Her family recognizes this incredible fight in her, and is pursing Neural Stem Cell Therapy since it is her most promising option.
As you can imagine, the cost for Regan’s treatment is very high. So her family has created a GoFundMe account to raise money to get Regan speaking and back up on her feet. Please consider donating to this cause – every little bit helps in our effort to #RaiseUpRegan.
